Get Traction in your Life

By Rick Cooper

One of the challenges in making progress in your life and in your business is getting traction. Some people never seem to make progress. They just seem to fall more behind every day.

What's holding you back? Self-limiting beliefs? Other people? Fragmented thinking or actions? What can you do to overcome those challenges?

You need to get traction to move forward. Imagine a 4 wheel drive truck stuck in the mud. The wheels are spinning with mud flying out the back. And yet, the truck doesn't go anyway. It seems like a lot of action, but there's really no forward movement.

Life is much the same way. It's easy to get stuck in a rut where you don't move forward. One way to get traction is to work with a coach. A coach can help you identify what mistakes you are making. They can identify where you are playing small. They can help you to overcome your fears and step outside of your comfort zone.

What are some other ways you can get traction in your life and in your business? Here are four steps you can take:

Simplify:

The first step is to simplify your efforts. If you're not getting any traction, there is one primary reason. You are overwhelmed. And there are only a few ways you can overcome overwhelm. One is to delegate. That may be easy if you have someone to delegate to like a Virtual Assistant. If that's not an option, then your next choice is to simplify. Do less. It's as simple as that. Who's running your business anyway? YOU!

Delay:

Another step is to delay. Again, you can't accomplish everything you set out to do. You need to prioritize what will give you the greatest results. I remember a comment made by Seth Godin during a teleseminar. He mentioned that Squidoo was losing web traffic. He said they decided to put all of their projects on hold and just focus on things that would increase web traffic. Wow! How many companies would have the leadership to pull of such a feat?

Focus:

And that leads us right into focus. To get traction, you need to focus your efforts like a laser beam. It's so important to spend your time on meaningful, worthwhile goals and activities. This is the power of planning and strategy. Don't miss out on this tool.

Celebrate:

And finally, celebrate your successes. It's so important to acknowledge yourself for your day to day successes. This will encourage you and help lead you in the right direction. As entrepreneurs, we have a tendency of getting stuck in the weeds. We wade through all of the challenges and miss sight of our accomplishments. That can lead to frustration.

So, whenever you feel like you're overwhelmed, like you're not getting traction, then follow these steps.
