The Challenge of Running a Professional Services Business

Why did you start your business? Did you want more free time? Did you want to find a better balance between work and life? Did you want to create financial freedom for yourself and your family?

How is it going? Are you on track? Most people who start a business struggle. It’s tough being a small business owner. You are responsible for all aspects of your business. You have to handle the finances, deliver your service and most challenging of all, find clients and get paid.

What is working for you right now? You’re probably doing well in a few areas. And that gives you confidence that things are going to be okay. But, unfortunately, there are probably a few areas that are not going so well.

Large companies survive by creating an environment of accountability. Two heads are smarter than one. This helps in making sure they stay on track, grow their business and adjust to changing circumstances.

Solo professionals don’t have this same level of accountability. When you’re accountable to yourself, you’re really accountable to no one. And this creates problems.

So, what is the solution? You need to find a supportive environment that will allow you to look at your business objectively and make small adjustments to fine-tune what you’re doing. And that can make all the difference in the world.

Finding a Supportive Environment

Imagine the opportunity to talk with other home-based service professionals on a regular basis to share your challenges and get feedback. Think how much easier life would be if you received expert guidance on your toughest challenges. This would give you a sounding board to brainstorm ideas and collaborate. What difference would that make in your life?

Being a small business owner is lonely at times. You have people around you who don’t understand what you’re going through. They probably see your struggles and simply recommend you just go and get another job. They don’t understand your passion and drive. They don’t know that you started your business not only to earn income, but also to express who you are as a human being.

Kathy Nesselroad“Prior to working with Rick Cooper, The Sales Results Expert, I felt I had no clear direction for my company and I was very fragmented in my thinking. Pulling everything together – targeting the right clients, cost effective marketing, setting appointments, organizing my operations, and setting clear attainable goals were very overwhelming. I didn't have a clear strategy.

As soon as I started working with Rick, I immediately began to see results. He helped me break it down into manageable portions. We established clear goals, worked to identify my ideal clients, and more importantly, how to attract them. Thanks to Rick, I now have a clear plan and I'm booking appointments and retaining the right type of client. "

When you surround yourself with people who are like you, you will be able to share your successes and your concerns and know that they will empathize with you. It’s so wonderful when we have an opportunity to share our feelings and feel like we are heard, isn’t it?

Building a Successful Business

Is your business successful? Is it financially successful? Do you earn enough income to cover your expenses? Are you debt free? Or is your debt level growing by the day? Do you have enough income left over to pay for a medical plan and save for retirement? If not, then you have some work to do.

People often underestimate what they’re worth when they go into business for themselves. They were used to earning a salary in the past. Earning revenues for a business is different. You have to charge more for your services because you have to cover business expenses and still have money left over for an income.

What challenges are you having in your business? Imagine for a moment, where will you be in one year if you don’t change anything? Where will you be in 3 years? In 5 years? If it’s not a pretty picture, then the time to take action is now!

Most businesses fail and that’s a shame. Most small business owners fail to make the changes they need to turn the ship around and start heading in the right direction. If you’re heading in the wrong direction now, you will probably continue in that direction until you crash into the rocks.

What are you going to do different that will help you to succeed? Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to come up with all the answers yourself?

Getting Help

Why do people choose to struggle on their own and not seek help? It’s tough to say. One reason is that people feel embarrassed. When you launch a business, you put your reputation on the line. You tell everyone that you’re starting a new business. They wish you luck, but remind you that most businesses fail. You tell them YOUR business will be different.

About a year into your business, you begin to realize this is not as easy as it first seemed. There are more challenges than you ever expected. And you begin to realize that the biggest obstacle holding you back is yourself. That’s right! YOU are preventing your business from growing and becoming successful. And then finally, one day, you say to yourself, “I need help!”

When you start a home-based professional services business, you are responsible for doing all of the work. That takes more skills than you probably have. Unless you owned a business previously, this is all new ground. It’s a fact: you’re strong in some areas and weak in others.

You can hire employees, but that will complicate your situation even more and create new challenges right and left. You can hire contractors and virtual professionals to support you and this will help tremendously. Ultimately, you still need to make your own decisions about how to move your business forward.

Each day brings new challenges as well as new opportunities. Some days you feel like you want to pull your hair out. And every once in a while, you have a day like no other. Everything clicks and you remember why you started your business in the first place. You say to yourself, “This is why I started my business. I wish every day was like this.” And you wonder why they’re not.

If you want more days like that, you need to understand what’s working for you and what’s not. And this insight comes when working with someone who can help you look objectively at what you’re doing and you make changes that will move yourself and your business forward.

Entrepreneur Success Program

In working with clients over the last 4 years, I have seen the many ways people hold themselves back. They often know what they need to do but won’t do it. And they won’t seek assistance and ask for help.

Most home-based service professionals struggle with finding clients. First, they often don’t know how to market their business and they don’t know how to sell their services. They make up for it by discounting their services too much. They end up taking clients who cannot afford their services and that leads to further financial issues.

Not only that, they don’t understand the importance of determining who their ideal clients are. And they don’t know how to find their ideal clients. They’re willing to do anything for anybody just to make a sale. Unfortunately, their message gets watered down and they end up getting nothing instead.

There is a better way…

You can be more successful than you ever imagined. You can build your business with confidence. You can find your ideal clients and rekindle the passion you had when you first started your business.

How? Picture this, each week, you learn a new distinction that allows you increase your focus, prioritize your most important activities and overcome the challenges you are currently facing. You have an opportunity to discuss your fears and trumpet your successes. You have a safe environment to ask for help and receive it.

Imagine, each month, having an opportunity to take a step back and look at the big picture. You’ll be able to look at where your business is headed and make adjustments to correct your course. This will give you an opportunity to review your business strategy and look for areas to improve what you’re doing.

And think of the value you’ll get each month, by receiving expert training to improve your sales and marketing efforts. After all, your success starts and ends with being able to find clients. Clients that pay. Clients that you enjoy working with. Clients that challenge you to do your best work.

Celebrating your Successes

When was the last time you were able to share your successes? When were you able to share something positive that happened in your business and had people cheering you on?

It’s important to pause and acknowledge yourself for your efforts. You are an amazing person and you are doing great things. But, it’s tough to acknowledge that when you have no one to share the news with.

I promise you will start seeing more successes than ever before when we start working together. And you will have an opportunity to share your successes and receive recognition for your efforts.

Making a Commitment

Building a successful business takes effort. It requires you to step outside of your comfort zone. You have to play big and confront your fears. You need to overcome obstacles and keep moving forward. It takes commitment.

Doing anything worthwhile in life means having to make sacrifices in the short term so you can reach your goals in the long term.

Are you ready to take your business to the next level? Are you ready to step up and play big? Are you ready to make a commitment to achieve the level of success you know you’re capable of?

Taking the Next Step

If this message struck a chord with you and you feel like you’re ready to take a big step forward in your business, then it’s time to get started.

I look forward to working with you. You are capable of great things and you will be more successful than you can possibly imagine. I’ll show you how.
