Be sure to set up rules to store messages that are lower priority. This will help to keep your email inbox empty. Unsubscribe from Ezines Please, unsubscribe from some ezines. I can't tell you how many people are overloaded with what they perceive as junk mail. If you don't read an ezine, unsubscribe! Save yourself some time and effort. That's a key strategy in increasing your productivity. For a lot of great tips of productivity, listen to the complimentary audio series: The 12 Days of Productivity. It's available as a podcast. Very cool! And it includes some great interviews with productivity and organization experts. Sort email into Folders or Labels Sort email into folders. Most email services allow you to create rules to sort email into folders based on the subject or sender. This is a great way to keep your inbox clear. It takes some extra work, but it's worth the extra. I prefer Gmail from Google. Gmail allows you to label messages. You can assign multiple labels to a message whereas most services let you put a message into only one folder. I strongly recommend Gmail. It will retrieve email from your business domain. Respond quickly Email piles up faster than cars at commute time. Block out time to check email. Prioritize your time as you go through messages. Respond immediately, but keep your messages short. There is no need to write a novel. Copy Contact Information Copy contact information into your contact management system. When you receive a message from someone you just met or who you have spoken to in awhile, check their email signature for current contact information. Copy and paste it into your contact management system. This will save you time and effort later. |
